So you want to rent movies online?

People are always asking me,

“Tevin what’s the best way to rent movies online?”

And we all probably know there are two huge players. And they are Netflix and Blockbuster. The to big “rent movies online” giants.

But of these two huge companies, which one is better? Should I choose both? Who has more titles? Who has cheaper prices? Can I try both of the to find out which one I like?

My goal is to help you answer each of these questions:

  1. Neither company is “better” than the other. It comes down to personal taste and individual needs.
  2. You probably should not pay for both companies. This would just be silly.
  3. You CAN try both companies. They each offer a two week free trial so you can find out which one you like more. Who has faster shipping times, or maybe one has one of your favorite more obscure titles than another. If you can try both for free… why not?
  4. Both Blockbuster & Netflix are adding thousands of titles every month. So either one may have more titles than another in any given month. But chances are, you’ll be able to find your favorite films in either one.
  5. Both pricing plans are very similar

So what are the big differences?

Well when you’re trying to choose between Blockbuster or Netflix it helps to know the big difference between the two companies.

The first obvious difference is Blockbuster has brick and mortar stores across the country. While Netflix is still a mail order service only. So Blockbuster has taken advantage of this opportunity and gives you the option to rent movies online then return them to their store at no extra charge. With their Total Access option, you can EXCHANGE your movie with a brand new one in store, for no extra charge. This is a major selling point to anyone looking to rent movies online and offline.

Netflix has recently countered with a very unique service of their own. They have over 7,000 movie available to watch instantly from your computer. So you don’t have to wait for them to be delievered. This a great option for many people looking for instant gratification.

If you’re looking to try either of these two services, I’ve put together a comparrison page here so you can find out which one is best for you. Then sign up.

So there are so many different ways to rent movies online.

The two most popular are of course Blockbuster and Netflix. These are the two major giants, each with over 70,000+ titles available. So when you want to rent movies online these two companies are the best source.

But which one to choose?

Sure they both offer competitive prices. And both even offer a two week free trial, so you can try one or both. Prices start as low as 3.99 a month, and go all the way up to 39.99 a month. Depending on the amount of flexibility you want in your plans.

If you’re looking for a comparison of the best rent movies online services I suggest you check out the comparrison page.

It’s important to note to major difference between both Netflix and Blockbuster.

Blockbuster: Offers the Total Access option. This allows you to rent movies online, then take them back to your local the store, and exchange them for a brand new movie, for absolutely no charge. The cool part about this is, while you have these newly exchanged DVDs Blockbuster online will send you a new DVD from your online queue. This means you always have a fresh supply of movies.

Netflix: Now they are a bit different. Since they don’t have local stores to exchange your movies. They’ve gone in a different direction. They have over 7,000 movies available for you to watch straight from your computer. This is great if you want to preview a few films, or you have a hi-tech system that enables you to gather the whole family around a big computer monitor/projector. Or maybe you just want to watch a few movies by yourself on your computer. This is a great option.

So no matter who you rent movies online through. There is a great option for you.

As a special bonus you can sign up now for a two week free trial through Blockbuster OR Netflix , so you can try one or both.

There are several ways to rent movies online

There are so many services you can use to rent movies online.

Blockbuster and Netflix have the largest subscription with over 70,000 titles each. You will never be at a shortage for great rent movies online.

I have used both, and both actually have wonderful systems. You can browse their huge catalog of DVD movies at any time with an internet connection, you then easily add any movie you see to your upcoming list. This will put it in line to mail to you absolutely free of charge.

All the mailing costs are covered in your monthly subscription dues. And almost every movie you rent seems to show up at remarkable speeds.

Blockbuster brings a very unique benefit to the table as well. They give you the “Total Access” option. This means, that every movie you get in the mail, can then be used as a “coupon” for a free movie, if you exchange it in store. You can then keep this movie (”with no late fees” according to the Blockbuster promotion), and they’ll be sending your new movie in the mail.

This actually allows you to have a ton of movies out at any given period of time. Perfect for those with a decision problem on EXACTLY what movie to watch. You’re never going to have a shortage of movies to watch when you rent movies online.

Netflix also has a very cool option. You can stream over 7,000+ (and growing everyday) to your computer, and watch the movie right then and there. If you’re looking for a quick movie fix, rent movies online at Netflix. Because you’ll never go hungry for another movie again.
